One of the missions of our club
is to find homes for cairns in need. Some of these
"rescue" cairns have been found at local animal shelters and
some have been given to us by their former owners because they
can no longer care for the dog.
The Cairn Terriers that are
adoptable are microchipped, spayed or neutered, up to date on
vaccinations, and have been examined by a veterinarian. If the
dog has any known behavior or health problems, we will
tell you before you adopt the dog. We ask that you sign a
contract regarding the care of the Cairn Terrier.
We have two permanent policies on
adoption: we require a securely fenced yard;
and we will not adopt to a family with children under the
age of 10 years. We have found that many Cairn Terriers do not
have the tolerance to react appropriately to young
children.
We are recommending that you do
NOT purchase a Cairn puppy from any retail outlet. Please go
to a responsible breeder, preferably one who is a member of
the Cairn Terrier Club
of America.
